Each self contained class explores a new meditation technique from the text, The New Meditation Handbook. This practical and inspiring guide to Buddhist meditation is for everyone.
All our actions of body, speech, and mind are causes and all our experiences are their effects. The law of karma explains why each individual has a unique mental disposition, a unique physical appearance, and unique experiences.
Renunciation, a mind leaving behind suffering completely, is the gateway through which we enter the path to liberation, or nirvana—the permanent inner peace attained through completely abandoning the confusion of self-grasping.
Self-grasping ignorance is an inner poison that causes far greater harm than any outer poison. Because of being polluted by this inner poison, our mind sees everything in a mistaken way, and as a result we experience hallucination-like sufferings and problems.
In the Sutra of the Four Noble Truths Buddha says, ‘You should practice the path.’ In this context, ‘path’ does not mean an external path that leads from one place to another, but an inner path, a spiritual realization that leads us to the pure happiness of liberation and enlightenment.
In this class, we will be looking at the 21 Meditations known as Lamrim presented in The New Meditation Handbook by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
In this series we explore Buddha’s teachings on creating a life of gratitude that’s spiritually engaged and feels totally protected and supported. This is a great place to start your spiritual journey towards realizing your potential or just to refresh your meditation practice. We’ll also have a special class Feb 14 on relationships from a Buddhist perspective.
